March 22nd, 2006The New World School of the Arts High School Jazz Ensemble performs regularly in South Florida and throughout the United States. The ensemble has been selected as a finalist in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition in five of the last six years, winning first place honors in May 2005. The group regularly performs with visiting guest artists and has performed with Wynton Marsalis, James Moody, Wycliffe Gordon, Duffy Jackson, and John Fedchock. Numerous students in the ensemble have been recognized for their musicianship on a national scale; recently several students have received Downbeat Student Music Awards and been selected to perform with the High School Grammy Band in Los Angeles, California.
