June 14th, 2006Legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy will electrify Miami when he brings his show to the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts for one performance only on Wednesday, June 14th at 8:00 p.m. This special performance is presented by and benefits Friends of Gusman, the theater’s fundraising arm, in celebration of the Gusman’s 80th anniversary. Buddy Guy, whom Eric Clapton has proclaimed “by far without a doubt the best guitar player alive,” is considered a titan of the blues, straddling traditional and modern forms. His 1991 album, Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues, earned a Grammy and increased his already stellar reputation. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. His new album, Bring ’Em In, features performances with Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, Tracy Chapman and other greats. “The Gusman has hosted a parade of megastars since it opened in 1926, from Elvis Presley and Sara Vaughan to Annie Lenox and Luciano Pavarotti, and we are thrilled to add Buddy Guy to this list,” said Theater Director Mike Wharton. “We will celebrate our 80th anniversary in high style.” Concert proceeds will go toward funding numerous initiatives launched by the Friends of Gusman board of directors, including continued restoration of the theater, expanded marketing, and development of new programming.
