From Jan 5th through Jan 8th, 2007Based on the success of last year’s Caribbean program, the 2007 Art Miami fair will continue to endorse and explore contemporary art of the Caribbean. Featuring new countries this year and offering visibility to artists who typically do not have access to mainstream exhibitions, Caribbean Crosscurrents presents four artists from Curacao, Haiti, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Exhibiting artists include Tricia Johnston, Francesca Lalanne, Tirzo Martha and Arnaldo Morales. A Panel Discussion will take place on Saturday, January 6th, 2007 at Room A 106-107 in the Miami Beach Convention Center, entitled Contemporary Caribbean Art: Gulf Stream , Mainstream or Next Wave? The Panel will be moderated by co – curator Tina Spiro. Panelists will include Deborah Cullen, Director of Curatorial Programs, El Museo del Barrio of New York, Annie Paul, Art Writer / Critic based at the University of the West Indies and Associate Editor of Small Axe, Jamaica and Edouard Duval-Carrie, a Haitian artist based in Miami.
