From Feb 3rd through May 5th, 2010.
Curious about contemporary art? Whether you are eager to enhance your current knowledge or are looking to start with the basics, MoCA’s Contemporary Art Boot Camp is the place to be. Discover the art of four pivotal decades from the 1960s to the 1990s during a lively series of lectures presented by MoCA Executive Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater based on her extensive original research and personal contact with artists who defined contemporary art. The 2010 season of Contemporary Art Boot Camp begins at the Museum of Contemporary Art on February 3rd at 7:30 pm.
Bonnie Clearwater is a noted art historian of contemporary art and author of The Rothko Book (Tate/Abrams), Ed Ruscha: Words Without Thought (Abrams), Frank Stella at 2000: Changing the Rules (MOCA, North Miami), Julian Schnabel: Versions of Chuck & Other Works (Derneburg Publications), Defining the Nineties: Consensus-making in New York, Miami and Los Angeles, Ana Mendieta: A Book of Works (Grassfield Press), and West Coast Duchamp (Grassfield Press), among others. During each session, she will explore a different decade of art beginning with the 1960s and ending with the 1990s and focus on the artists from around the world who influenced contemporary art.
“The purpose of these lectures is to provide the audience an introduction into the understanding and the interpretation of the art of our time and the means to make their own discoveries,” notes Clearwater.
