By Tigertail Productions and Florida Dance Association From Jun 25th through Jun 29th, 2007One of the highlights of the Florida Dance Festival is the DanceAble Event, a collaborative project co-presented by Tigertail Productions and Florida Dance Association. This program is part of a burgeoning global disability arts movement. Aimed at gathering dance artists and professionals, DanceAble’s workshops, seminars and other activities confront traditional ideologies and challenge the notion of who can create and perform this ever-evolving art form. New Zealand’s Touch Compass is this year’s featured company for DanceAble. This vibrant, theatrical, integrated dance company from Auckland, New Zealand, mixes film, aerial work and dance/theater in their concerts. The company is in residence from June 25th through 29th, offering aerial workshops, a film screening and a full evening performance. For the second year in a row, the half-day forum, Beyond Accessibility, Impacting the Lives of Artists with Disabilities, in partnership with VSA arts of Florida, takes place at the Miami Dade College, ETCOTA Auditorium. The forum is a unique opportunity to share challenges and successes with South Florida, national and international leaders in the field of mixed ability arts. Special forum guests include Judy Smith, Artistic Director of AXIS Dance Company and John Killacky, Program Officer for Arts and Culture at the San Francisco Foundation.
