Nov 30th through Dec 5th, 2010. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A 1955 portrait by Salvador Dali of Dolores Suero Falla, Carlos de la Cruz’s mother, inspired our 2010 – 2011 exhibition. Anchored in Surrealism and covering a broad stylistic and conceptual range of works, this year’s installation will try to establish a dialogue between Dali’s portrait and a selection of works from the collection. The de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, located in Miami’s Design District, opened in December 2009 during Art Basel Miami Beach. This new space serves as an extension to the home of Carlos and Rosa de la Cruz where their collection has been, and continues to be available for public viewing.
As part of the educational mission, the Collection will continue programs that include rotating exhibitions, permanent installations, student workshops, lecture series and site-specific projects throughout the year.
As part of the initiative to support local artists, there will be three installations in our project rooms by Miami artists Christy Gast, Karen Rifas and a collaborative video project by Carlos Rigau with artists Nancy Garcia, Justin Long, Jillian Mayer, Martin Murphy, Sleeper, and Bryan Zanisnik. Artist Jim Drain will wrap the perimeter fence of a soon to be developed lot on 41st street. The imagery of this vinyl mesh reflects the neighborhood’s quickly evolving natural landscape and built environment. This project is sponsored by the de la Cruz Collection, Craig Robins Collection and Cymbal Development.
