Exclusive South Florida Premiere of The Queen of Versailles

Tower Theater. May 16, 2012. 7:00 p.m.

A fairy tale saga crashes into the cruel reality of the current Florida real-estate crisis. David Siegel makes an absolute fortune selling timeshares for people seeking a lavish lifestyle while on vacation. With his billions and inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France, he decides to build the biggest house in America for his wife Jackie, a former Mrs. Florida, and their eight children, resulting in a 90,000 square foot mansion in Orlando, Florida.

Just like in Cinderella, the clock has struck midnight and the Siegels find themselves in a losing battle against the banking institutions that once helped them construct their empire. Jackie has a very hard time adjusting to a new life without her team of maids and drivers. The kids are forced to switch from private to public schools, while David appears to drown in work and depression during this trying period.

Lauren Greenfield’s candid documentary depicts the character of the Siegel family, which is fueled by ambition, luxury and desire, mixed with a refreshingly unpretentious and humble nature, as they endure the bumpiest ride of their lives.

Winner of Best Director, Documentary Competition, Sundance Film Festival 2012.
