The Miami Design Preservation League February 10th, 2007The Miami Design Preservation League will present a free screening of Flying Down to Rio at the Miami Beach Regional Library. The film opens a new film series titled Art Deco Icons. A 1933 nostalgic Fred Astaire – Ginger Rogers musical comedy film directed by Thornton Freeland for RKO, this film was the first on-screen pairing of Astaire and Rogers. Flying Down to Rio’s opening scene is set in Miami, where Bond’s band The Yankee Clippers has happily found steady work at an upscale hotel. But, after bandleader Bond’s amorous dance with flirtatious Belinha provokes her chaperone into having the band fired, Bond and his Yankee Clippers head south to Rio.
