June 11th, 2006Miami Civic Music Association and the Symphonettes present pianist Rachel Kudo the Second Prize winner at the Seventh National Chopin Competition in Miami last year. Ms. Kudo will perform works by Beethoven, Barber and Chopin at Gusman Concert Hall on Sunday, June 11th at 4:00 p.m. Ms. Kudo began studying piano at the age of four and by the age of 16 she had made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Fort Worth Symphony orchestra. She was the youngest winner at the National Chopin Competition in 2005. Some of her engagements include performances at the 56th International Chopin Festival in Poland, the International Nagoya Youth Music Festival in Russia, the Steinway Society of Chicago, the Stradivarius Museum in Cremona and the 2003 Opening Night Gala Celebration for the Music Institute of Chicago honoring conductor Sir Andrew Davis. She has also been heard on radio stations in Chicago and New York. She was named a 2004 Davidson Fellow Laureate, a prestigious $50,000 scholarship award endowed by the Davidson Institute of Talent Development and was the 2003 winner of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Joseph and Bessie Feinberg Youth Auditions. She has won prizes at numerous international piano competitions in the United States and Europe. As an avid chamber musician, her piano trio won the silver medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2003. She is currently studying at the Music Institute of Chicago.
