From June 24th through July 23rd, 2006LegalArt presents its first annual exhibition, Native Seeds: New Work from Grant Finalists, honoring the top ten finalists from the 2005 Emerging Artist Grant Program. The initial jury was comprised of Sofia Bullrich from ArtNexus Magazine, Annhy Shim from The Related Group and Claire Breukel from ArtCenter/South Florida who selected the top ten finalists including: Bhakti Baxter, Cooper, Jacin Giordano, Jiae Hwang, Pepe Mar, Emily Martinez, Brandon Opalka, Norberto Rodriguez, Frances Trombly and Wendy Wischer. The second jury, comprised of artist Karen Rifas, Richard Shack who is Chair Emeritus, ArtCenter/South Florida and Alfredo Triff, art and culture critic, selected the second place winners between Cooper, Jiae Hwang and Jacin Giordano as the first runner-up along with the recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant Norberto “Bert” Rodriguez. “We conceived Native Seeds as an exhibition that would grow annually to highlight the ripening talent from our community,” says Carolina O. Garcia, Executive Director and Founder of LegalArt. “By presenting the grant prize of $3,000 simultaneously with the exhibition, publication of the corresponding catalogue, an ArtChat and other fund raising events, LegalArt continues its contribution to the on-going exposure and development of some of South Florida’s most intriguing and cutting-edge artists,” concludes Garcia. Native Seeds will be on view at the ArtCenter/South Florida until July 23rd, 2006. The opening reception will take place on June 24th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. ArtChat between Mr. Rodriguez, Fredric Snitzer and Alfredo Triff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th, 2006.
