New South Florida based video sharing website

Channel 2 South Florida PBS Station. August, 2007.

WPBT Channel 2. Miami Art NewsuVu is a video sharing website and companion digital broadcast channel powered by WPBT Channel 2, South Florida’s PBS station. Community oriented, the website hosts video content created and submitted by users, community groups or cultural and educational institutions in South Florida. Comparison with YouTube.com is inevitable, and yes, it’s the same principle, yet totally different.

uVu uses the promotional power of WPBT Channel 2’s digital channel to provide a broadcast outlet for new ideas and content. Using a ranking system of the most watched online segments, content is taken from the website and used as program elements on-air in the digital channel. Local PBS programming from Channel 2 is also available on the online site, offering users another way to learn more about, and comment on, their community.

The website also hosts a message board and a blog. uVu responds to local events with the help of an army of citizen “correspondents,” shooting and supplying “their own Vu” to the site. Using the trusted public broadcast brand of WPBT and the backing of a wide range of civic, arts and community based groups and organizations, the website takes from public debates to conversations at a family dinner table, and shoot them to the public for debate and impact on a larger scale. South Florida’s uVu, (like “you-view”) brings the community together to share views and ideas in a safe, easy-to-use online environment.
