April, 2006The Next Generation International Film Festival will present this year a series of free screenings of international feature length films and shorts that offer a window on the world through images and stories from around the globe. Films are presented under the guidelines of First Screens for 9 to 12 year olds; Free To Fly for 12 to 14 year olds; and Y Gen for 15 to 19 year olds. Film screenings will be complemented with in-theater discussions, study guides and school-based programs. With images and stories from around the world, the Next Gen Film Project introduces young people to international film and art cinema. Presented by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Division of Life Skills, the project is designed to build the “next generation” of audiences who understand and appreciate international film. Through the annual Next Gen International Film Festival, school-based Next Gen Film Clubs, and other film screenings and workshops, the project promotes reading skills, foreign language, international awareness, and the passion for good film.
