Nuez Art Gallery Prominent members of South Florida’s artistic, medical and mental health communities will come together on January 25th, 2008 for a special fundraiser and reception at Little Havana’s Nuez Gallery to benefit the National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally Ill (NAEMI). Like all NAEMI exhibitions, this fundraiser will include works that vary in theme, composition, subject matter and vision, sharing one common thread; they were all produced by artists suffering from a mental illness.

“This reception marks a major step for NAEMI, not only will we be selling 60 exclusive pieces from our permanent collection, but it also marks our 20th anniversary, “ said NAEMI founder Juan Martin. “For those attending, this will be a remarkable opportunity to view and purchase the works of some of the world’s most talented outsider artists, while at the same time giving our organization and artists much needed support.”

For 20 years, NAEMI has been dedicated to the discovery, study, promotion, exhibition and preservation of the art of the mentally ill throughout the world. Long the nation’s only organization dedicated solely to helping artists suffering from mental illnesses find a place to display and sell their works, NAEMI is now gaining an international presence with a newly opened branch in Spain and planned exhibitions in Spain, China and around Europe.

The January 25th event begins at 7:00 pm at the Nuez Art Gallery located at 1648   SW 8th Street. The fundraiser is free of charge and will feature the music of Frank Padron with Señor Divertido. Pieces from NAEMI’s permanent collection and copies of the organizations fourth book “Outsider an Inside Art” will be available for sale at the event with all proceeds going to help NAEMI further their mission.
