An invitational Art Show to benefit the homeless of MiamiFaktura Gallery presents a collection of pimped out shopping karts in a week-long event from November 30th, 2005. Artist Jacquelyn Jackson Johnston brings together a large and varied group of Miami’s artists, in cooperation with visiting artists to present a group show on found objects while raising funds for the homeless in Miami. Originally inspired by the sight of a homeless man who had created a two-kart elevated loft bed parked under a tree in downtown Miami, Johnston began to explore the idea in a unique way of demanding that artwork not only be critically informed but also a positive and viable contribution to the community. Among the artists are Jacquelyn Jackson Johnston, Wendy Doscher-Smith, Damian Rojo, Brian Opalka, Ann Everton, Anthony Mangicapra and Kiki Valdes among others. The exhibition presents an entire collection of karts, as well as select artwork from participating artists. The opening reception will be followed by four days of city-wide events and happenings: November 30, opening reception at Faktura Gallery, $5 admission or FREE with the donation of clean clothing or non-perishables. Two-thirds of the sale prices will be donated to the continuum of care and the primary care category of the Community Partnership For Homeless of Miami-Dade.
