From June 2nd through July 31st, 2006Tastes and Tongues, by Antoni Miralda, is the new exhibition presented by the Spanish Cultural Center. Opening on June 2nd, 2006 at the Center’s venue in Coral Gables, the exhibition will also be on view at the Collins Building in the Design District and at TransEAT from June 23rd through July 31st, 2006. Tastes & Tongues is a traveling collective work in progress comprising dishes, photographs, videos and installation. Being a traveling exhibition, Tastes and Tongues fuses with every urban context where it is presented. It explores food culture that has been preserved through popular culture and collective memory, incorporating to the work many elements extracted from those particular contexts. Also, in every presentation, the audience is invited to participate and to be part of the process. Initiated in Miami in 2002, it now returns after visiting other 12 Ibero-American cities such as Caracas, Lima, Mexico City, Bogota and Havana. There is the notion that people are what they eat. Tastes and Tongues appeals to the ways different cultures relate to food. It combines images, sounds, writings and objects in a prolific mix of rituals, language, local histories and traditions looking for those meeting points where we could universally communicate through the act of eating.
