District Lab. From Mar 8th through Apr 9th, 2008. The Boys Collection is a body of work that challenges society’s viewpoint on what is perceived as “sexy.” Melissa Rodwell’s photographs celebrate the youthful male body in striking poses that emanate energy, sexuality and vulnerability with a distinct ‘70s glam-rock, androgynous edge.
Photographed over a three-year period, Rodwell envisioned a body of images that would bring back the erotic sexuality of the young male at a time when the current Zeitgeist is oversaturated with female body-consciousness. Weary of shooting female models, she turned her lens to male subjects with breathtaking and thought-provoking results.
The Boys Collection is Rodwell’s fourth solo show. The Miami installation follows her recent exhibition in Los Angeles. Miami-based photographer Melissa Rodwell and her husband / muse, will meet guests at the opening reception that will take place on March 8th at the District Lab, located at 175 NW 22nd Street in the Wynwood Art District.
