The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami announced the first museum-based art and communications initiative in Miami-Dade for children, teens, and young adults. The MOCA Art Institute’s comprehensive art and communications program provides students with an innovative approach to education in these fields within a dynamic contemporary art museum environment.
The institute builds on the museum’s 15 years of experience providing education programs to more than 20,000 students annually.
MOCA Art Institute provides after-school, evening, weekend, and summer programs in art history, interdisciplinary and museum studies, studio art, photography, creative writing, graphic arts and journalism, in which students progressively acquire skills that round out their education experience. Students enjoy ongoing access to MOCA’s exhibitions and permanent collection of contemporary art. They also benefit from personal guidance and mentoring by MOCA’s professional staff and visiting artists, inspiring them to become life-long learners and lovers of art.
The museum also hosts learning expeditions, teacher training workshops, and classroom visits and provides opportunities for visiting artists to work within the schools and with the students in creating cooperative works in both the visual and performing arts, and in the communication disciplines. Registration is currently open. For information visit the museum’s website at www.mocanomi.org
