From Apr 6th through May 20th, 2007 The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood’s Third All-Media Juried Biennial Exhibition opened at the Center’s galleries on Friday, April 6th, 2007. The exhibition features 43 pieces of artwork representing a large variety of media such as paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, video, computer-generated images and site-specific installations. Entries for the competition were selected from more than 600 works submitted by 211 Florida-based artists. A group of 37 artworks were chosen by this year’s juror Claire Breukel, executive director of Locust Projects in Miami, selection that consequently narrowed down to six cash awarded winners. Awards were divided in three categories, Best in Show, First, Second and Third Places and Honorable Mentions. Best in show – a $2,000 prize – was granted to Robert C. Flynn for his work Garland, an 80 x 80 inches graphite, charcoal and acrylic on paper, while the First place was awarded to the young Miami collaboration of Brad Kuhl and Monique Leyton for their “tapage” work One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer. Second Place was awarded to Susan Lee-Chun, while theThird place went to Tom Scicluna and Honorable Mentions to Daniela Arrieta and Raul Jose Mendez respectively. Besides the awarded works, a slideshow featuring selected artworks from all of the contestants is also shown as part of the exhibition.
