From Dec 6th through Dec 8th, 2006Featuring fifteen hundred original postcards created by more than three hundred world-renowned and up-and-coming artists from thirty one countries, the Third Annual Masters’ Mystery Art Show (MMAS) at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach opens during the Art Basel week. The original 6 x 9 – inch works are signed only on the back, creating an artistic “whodunit” as guests buzz around and try to identify valuable works to add to their collections. The artists’ names are hidden on the back of each work of art and revealed only after their sale. This event was co-created by Florida International University and The Lowenstein Family. This year’s participating artists include Whoopi Goldberg, Rachael Ray, Rosie O’Donnell, Jose Carreras, Andy Garcia, Bernadette Peters, Quincy Jones, Cachao, Lily Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Carlos Vives, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Romero Britto, Carlos Betancourt, Madonna and her children Lola and Rocco, Zac Posen, Peruvian soccer player Nene Cubillas among many others. Artworks in the exhibition are for sale to benefit Florida International University Masters in Fine Arts Program. The almost symbolic value of each piece is $ 50.00, regardless to their creator’s name or expertise in the visual arts. In addition to the myriad of tiny works on paper, a specially designed miniature work of art by Swarovski will be also on display and available for purchase at the show.
