At the Tower Theatre From Jan 11th through Jan 21st, 2007Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus is showcasing a group exhibition entitled The Eyes of the South by the female artist collaborative W-10. The exhibition is hosted at the Tower Theatre located in Miami and will run until January 21st, 2007. The group, W-10, was founded by aspiring female artists who confronted various challenges and barriers as they began their lives anew outside their native lands, culture, and language. Despite having grown up outside of the world of art, these women felt an urgent desire to paint and become part of their new country and city’s artistic community. The name W-10 is derived from the original number of women who found each other and friendship in an art class taught by Miami Dade College professor Yovani Bauta, who is also serving as curator of the event.
